DOHA, Qatar (AP) — Chang Yani topped teammate Chen Yiwen on the 3-meter springboard Friday, giving the powerhouse Chinese team its eighth diving gold medal of the World Aquatics Championships. Beginning with their emergence in 1984, the Chinese have won 47 of 72 diving gold medals. Since the Olympic program doubled from four to eight events in 2000, they have been even more dominant — 38 gold medals in 48 events. One thing the Chinese haven't done is take the top spot in all eight diving events at a single Olympics. The final two diving events will be held Saturday at the Hamad Aquatic Centre.

At the Hamad Aquatic Centre, the synchronized silver went to Australia's Anabelle Smith and Maddison Keeney in 300.45. Chang has now won four synchronized 3-meter world titles, also taking the 2017 championship while partnered with Shi Tingmao. The 30-year-old now has three world championships over her illustrious career, along with gold and silver medals at the Olympics. It was the 16th world medal for Cunha, who has reached the podium in eight straight championships going back to 2011.

DOHA, Qatar (AP) — With China sitting out the first two diving events, other nations got a chance to shine on Day 1 of the World Aquatics Championships. Australia's Alysha Koloi won the women's 1-meter springboard, while the British squad led by Olympic gold medalist Tom Daley claimed gold in the mixed team. At last year's world championships in Fukuoka, China won 12 of 13 events and captured 19 medals in all. Daley, who won a gold medal in the 10-meter synchro at the Tokyo Olympics, claimed his first international title since taking a year-long break from the sport. The other members of the Australian bronze medal team were Li Shixin, Maddison Keeney and Nikita Hains.

Glenn Youngkin isn’t on the ballot this year, but his push for a new conservative direction for the Republican Party is. The discipline extended beyond the 10 candidates Youngkin endorsed in competitive primaries, so as to keep distractions at bay. Virginia Democrats, who would normally use such a post to put the entire GOP in an awkward position, did not apparently even notice. Still, there isn’t a lot of evidence that the Virginia Democratic Party sees Youngkin as any sort of liability for the GOP — he isn’t featured negatively in any of their ads, for example. “What we have found out over the last two years is that that vest-wearing, affable, basketball playing dad is really a MAGA Extremist,” said Virginia Democratic Party Chair Susan Swecker.

Caterpillar warns of lower sales, margins in third quarter

Aug 1 (Reuters) - Caterpillar Inc (CAT.N) warned of a fall in third-quarter sales and margins on Tuesday as dealer inventories rose again, stoking worries that demand for its heavy machinery used in everything from construction to mining may have peaked. Caterpillar, seen as a proxy for global economic activity, said on Tuesday it was expecting third-quarter sales and operating profit margin to be higher than in the previous year, but lower compared to the second quarter. The manufacturer reported a $600 million increase in dealer inventory in the second quarter from a year earlier, primarily in its energy and transportation business, as drilling at North American rigs shows signs of weakening. Meanwhile, Caterpillar reported an adjusted profit of $5.55 per share in the second quarter, beating analysts' expectations of $4.58 per share. Sales rose 21.6% to $17.32 billion, above Wall Street estimates of $16.49 billion.

SAN FRANCISCO, July 19 (Reuters) - Tesla (TSLA.O) Chief Executive Elon Musk on Wednesday set new targets for artificial intelligence products including self-driving software and using humanoid robots in factories, though he acknowledged he's been optimistic before. The electric vehicle maker is in early talks with a major automaker to license its full self-driving technology, Musk added. The value of Tesla vehicles would rise in perhaps "the single biggest step change in history" once regulators approved self-driving, he said at an earnings briefing. Musk has also said that Tesla robots, in pilot phase, could become a huge product. But Musk said Tesla will keep pushing to expand sales volume at the cost of profit margins, betting on the long-term value from FSD.

The opportunity for Tesla is in robotaxis, says Ark Invest

In this videoShare Share Article via Facebook Share Article via Twitter Share Article via LinkedIn Share Article via EmailThe opportunity for Tesla is in robotaxis, says Ark InvestTasha Keeney of the investment management firm says there are early signs that "autonomous driving is already safer than humans."
Cathie Wood's Ark predicts the market for delivery robots to grow to $1 trillion by 2030. Tesla is well positioned to expand into the technology, and that should boost the stock toward Ark's 2026 price target of $4,600, the fund said. Ark alluded to Elon Musk's comments at Tesla's earnings that "mind blowing" products were coming. In its weekly Ark Disrupt newsletter, the investment firm stressed the scope for Tesla to expand into the new technology, which the fund predicts will grow to a $trillion market by 2030. Keeney added that this would help Tesla's share price toward Ark's 2026 target of $4,600 per share, a 2,500% increase from current market levels.
